In the first part of this week’s BuRStS, we covered some lesser known releases. Now, it’s time to cover some of the bigger box office films of the summer already making themselves available for your home viewing pleasure. Here is the second batch of what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of September 27th:
The Shallows —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: Girl goes into the shallows. Shark’s in the shallows.
Shark movies are your guilty pleasure.
Despite the horrific nature of the circumstances of the film, The Shallows is one of the most beautifully shot films of the year. (And we’re not even factoring in Blake Lively.)
You have some popcorn that’s about to go stale and need a popcorn flick to watch while you devour it.
You’re a land lover!
MHT Verdict: Buy it!
Beautiful to look at and plenty of intensity around a fairly simplistic concept: Woman vs. shark.
Central Intelligence —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: High school outcast becomes a lethal CIA agent and enlists the help of the one guy who was nice to him in high school.
They had you with the tag line: “A little Hart and a big Johnson.”
You don’t like bullies.
No matter how silly the premise, this movie has “The Rock” in it. It’s “The Rock”!
You still haven’t gotten over Ride Along and Ride Along 2.
MHT Verdict: Stream it!
While Central Intelligence has its moments, it definitely wasn’t nearly as funny as expected.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: Mike and Dave need wedding dates.
Zac Efron’s abs.
Aubrey Plaza’s raunchiness.
Anna Kendrick’s butt double.
MHT Verdict: Rent it!
While Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates isn’t a great movie, it’s a funny one.
Warcraft —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: Draenor, the home world of the orcs, is being torn apart. Gui’dan, a powerful orc warlock opens a portal to Azeroth to save the orc clan… Wait, you’re still reading?
You mean illegally download from the Internet, right?
Seriously? Who rents?
You would use your friend’s streaming account if only you had a friend.
You have a life.
MHT Verdict: Skip it!
