The Iron Giant is available on Blu-Ray for the first time! I told you this was a very special edition of BuRStS. Here’s part 2 of 3:
The Iron Giant: Signature Edition –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: A boy and his outer space robot.
Why Buy?
Umm… it’s The Iron Giant!
Why Rent?
You’re cheap.
Why Stream?
You’re cheap and lazy.
Why Skip?
You’re out of tissues.
MHT Verdict: Buy it!
It’s a classic.
Equals –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: If Romeo & Juliet met 1984.
Why Buy?
At some point, Kristen Stewart won you over and now you can’t get enough.
Why Rent?
You know you wanted to see a Nicholas Hoult movie but they kind of all look the same so you aren’t sure if this was the one.
Why Stream?
This looks a little like Gattaca so now you want to watch it just so you can complain how much it’s like Gattaca… or admit that you’re wrong.
Why Skip?
Why watch this when it’s been done so often but better?
MHT Verdict: Stream it!
Hoult and Stewart supposedly have great chemistry and director Drake Doremus delivers some interesting visual aesthetics.
Genius –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: Based on the true story of book editor Maxwell Perkins and literary giant Thomas Wolfe.
Why Buy?
You actually know who Maxwell Perkins and Thomas Wolfe are (without the help of Google or Siri).
Why Rent?
Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Guy Pearce, Dominic West? That’s a heck of a cast for a movie you’ve probably never heard of.
Why Stream?
Screenwriter John Logan also wrote Gladiator, The Aviator, Skyfall and Hugo.
Why Skip?
You’d rather wait for the book. There is a book? Okay, you’ll read the book instead.
MHT Verdict: Stream it!
There’s too much talent involved to just completely dismiss Genius.
Hard Target 2 –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: 23 years later, Hard Target gets a sequel and if you’re like me, you’re asking “Why?”
Why Buy?
If you’re considering buying this, you’ll buy anything.
Why Rent?
You have family in the movie.
Why Stream?
You like to test your will to live.
Why Skip?
Common decency.
MHT Verdict: Skip it!
Unless you need a reminder of how bad action movies were in the 90s, sit this one out.
Now You See Me 2 —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: The Four Horsemen return.
Why Buy?
You loved Now You See Me to the point where you’re sure you’ll love the sequel.
Why Rent?
Now You See Me was good but you’re a little lukewarm on the idea of a sequel.
Why Stream?
You’ve seen neither the original or the sequel and have 4 hours to kill.
Why Skip?
You’re happy to make this movie disappear.
MHT Verdict: Rent it!
While it wasn’t great, Now You See Me 2 is at least a serviceable follow up to the original and more fitting for the small screen than the big screen.
