Hot Take: Storks

Hot Take: One thing Storks doesn’t deliver often enough is laughs. Generic animated adventure with a little comedy mixed in.

There have been a few animated offerings this year. Storks probably falls somewhere in the middle. Easily better than The Angry Birds Movie but nowhere near as good as Zootopia, Storks delivers a safe, slightly entertaining 87 minutes for kids that won’t make adults lose their minds.Read More →

Hot Take: Bridget Jones’s Baby

Hot Take: As unfunny as expected but nowhere near as annoying. That’s something, right?

I was not the target audience for Bridget Jones’s Baby. Having very little to do with my gender, it seems that Bridget Jones’s Baby appeals only to those who have already invested time and energy into the Bridget Jones character and having spent time rummaging through her diary would now be curious to see what would happen if she got pregnant during a week of promiscuity. As I never peered into Bridget Jones’s Diary nor bothered to view its sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, it was hard to understand what exactly was so enthralling about RenĂ©e Zellweger’s character.Read More →

It’s another two part BuRStS as 8 movies are set to hit the home video market. While there’s a different debate capturing the attention of the United States, MHT will settle the debate on which movies you should buy, rent, stream and skip during the week of September 27th:Read More →

To See Or Not To See – September 23rd: Storks, The Magnificent Seven, The Queen of Katwe & The Dressmaker

Last week was the worst week of the year at the box office. Thanks to disastrous performances by Blair Witch, Bridget Jones’s Baby and Snowden, the total box office was the lowest of any this year. This week, things are looking up as a star-studded remake and an animated feature look to boost the box office performance. Both releases will likely do more than the trio of duds from the previous week combined. There are also two platform releases joining the two heavyweights. Here are MHT’s recommendations on what to see and not see for the week of September 23rd:Read More →

Hot Take: Blair Witch

Hot Take: Remember The Blair Witch Project? Isn’t this basically the same movie with better technology and louder sounds?

If you are a fan of The Blair Witch Project which came out 17 years ago in 1999 and imagined the film might be better if they stuck with similar sight gags and noises and just upgraded the film’s technology then Blair Witch is for you. If you saw The Blair Witch Project and thought anything else, Blair Witch is probably a waste of time.Read More →

Hot Take: Snowden

Hot Take: So-so retelling elevated by Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s excellent performance in a movie that’s way too long.

Oliver Stone’s mission in Snowden was to scare the bejesus out of us when it comes to our privacy. Snowden was just an end to justify the means. So, you almost have to evaluate the movie separate from Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance as Edward Snowden. And, in this case, we’ll talk about both separately.Read More →

To See Or Not To See – September 16th: Blair Witch, Bridget Jones’s Baby, Snowden, Hillsong – Let Hope Rise, Mr. Church, Wild Oats, Victor & Miss Stevens

In: 2016, To See or Not To See

This is one of those weeks at the movies where it feels more like quantity than quality. The week feels vaguely familiar as there’s a Blair Witch reboot, a Bridget Jones sequel, a controversial Oliver Stone project, a faith-based film and a role that might get Eddie Murphy nominated for an Oscar. There’s also 3 platform releases so if you try to see everything that comes out, it’s going to be a long week. Here’s MHT’s recommendations on what to see and not see for the week of September 16th:
