BuRStS #33 (Part 1): Free State of Jones, Interrogation, Pele: Birth of a Legend + Rodeo & Juliet

With 8 choices this week, BuRStS becomes a double feature. In the first half, there’s Matthew McConaughey, a sports biopic and 2 direct-to-video options. Let’s not waste anymore time and get right to what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of September 20th:

Free State of Jones —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: The story of Newt Knight and the uprising of Jones County, Mississippi which led to their successful secession from the Confederacy.

Why Buy?

As a Matthew McCounaghey fan, you see a movie of his is released and you say, “Alright! Alright! Alright!”

Why Rent?

You’re a fan of Civil War movies and were unfamiliar with the story of Jones County, Mississippi.

Why Stream?

Considering the amount of children Newt had with two different women (one white, one black) and that those children actually became romantically involved later, there’s a good chance you’re a relative and should see this out of family obligation.

Why Skip?

You’ve gone AWOL.

MHT Verdict: Buy it!

Free State of Jones was a little long but had a number of compelling scenes and was carried by a strong performance from McCounaghey.

Interrogation –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Two FBI agents vs. a criminal mastermind in a steel cage a chase around the city to stop the bomber.

Why Buy?

You love movies starring current and former wrestlers and this one features Edge and Lana.

Why Rent?

Movies from WWE Studios are a guilty pleasure.

Why Stream?

You always wondered what Die Hard With A Vengeance would be like if they replaced Samuel L. Jackson with a white woman.

Why Skip?

Even 86 minutes seems long when you imagine watching wrestlers try to be actors.

MHT Verdict: Stream it!

Both Adam “Edge” Copeland and C.J. “Lana” Perry created great ring personas that prove they can capture an audiences attention. It might translate to the big screen which makes Interrogation at least worth a look.

Pele: Birth of a Legend –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: The story of the first 17 years of the life of Pele who is arguably the greatest soccer player of all time.

Why Buy?

You want to have a movie in your collection that you can pop in every time you want to shout, “GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!”

Why Rent?

You’re familiar with Pele but don’t much about his rise to fame.

Why Stream?

That Vincent D’Onofrio accent though.

Why Skip?

You don’t care about football unless it involves a helmet and pads.

MHT Verdict: Rent it!

Pele was a special athlete and a story worth learning about.

Rodeo & Juliet –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Another movie about a girl and a horse.

Why Buy?

You bought the other movies about a girl and a horse and loved them.

Why Rent?

Nothing better than throwing a horse, a farm and Christmas into the mix of a Shakespeare knock-off, right?

Why Stream?

You’re a city mouse.

MHT Verdict: Skip it!

Enough’s enough with the girl/horse movies.
