BuRStS #33 (Part 2): Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Ma Ma, Sacrifice & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

After a brief intermission, we’re back for the second half of our double feature. This one features two sequels and two films with female leads. We’ve got four more to either buy, rent, stream or skip:

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Like Neighbors but with a sorority next door instead of a fraternity.

Why Buy?

You loved Neighbors.

Why Rent?

You liked Neighbors.

Why Stream?

You didn’t like Neighbors but you thought if only the neighbors were girls.

Why Skip?

You hated Neighbors.

MHT Verdict: Buy it!

The twist on the original is just enough to make it intriguing. Oh and Zac Efron.

Ma Ma –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: A woman battles breast cancer and finds love in an unlikely place.

Why Buy?

Penelope Cruz is fantastic.

Why Rent?

You love melodrama and can speak Spanish (or can handle subtitles).

Why Stream?

While the movie didn’t get great reviews, Penelope Cruz’s performance did and that makes it worth a look.

Why Skip?

No te interesa.

MHT Verdict: Rent it!

Cruz has a track record of solid performances and her being part of the film (she’s also the film’s producer) is enough to make it a recommendable.

Sacrifice –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: The closest thing to a low budget horror film this week can muster.

Why Buy?

You enjoy the thrills IFC Midnight films offer.

Why Rent?

You’re familiar with the work of Radha Mitchell and Rupert Graves and enjoy it.

Why Stream?

It’s late and you can’t sleep anyway.

Why Skip?

You’re selfish.

MHT Verdict: Stream it!

Sacrifice looks like it might be worth a look and it’s only 91 minutes so it won’t take up too much of your time if it isn’t.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: An unnecessary sequel of an unnecessary reboot of the heroes in a half shell.

Why Buy?

Turtle power!

Why Rent?

Even though you know it’s going to be bad, you can’t stop chasing your childhood.

Why Stream?

Even if it’s bad, Megan Fox is still drool-worthy.

Why Skip?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me for the 50th time, shame on Michael Bay.

MHT Verdict: Skip it!

It’s tough to sit through. It really is.
