To See Or Not To See – September 23rd: Storks, The Magnificent Seven, The Queen of Katwe & The Dressmaker

Last week was the worst week of the year at the box office. Thanks to disastrous performances by Blair Witch, Bridget Jones’s Baby and Snowden, the total box office was the lowest of any this year. This week, things are looking up as a star-studded remake and an animated feature look to boost the box office performance. Both releases will likely do more than the trio of duds from the previous week combined. There are also two platform releases joining the two heavyweights. Here are MHT’s recommendations on what to see and not see for the week of September 23rd:

storks-poster

Storks
Theater Count: 3,922
Starring: Andy Samberg, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, Kelsey Grammer, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele

See the Trailer:

MHT Hot Take:

See it! I you are one to be okay with kid’s movies or animation, put Storks on your list. Otherwise, skip it!

the-magnificent-seven-international-poster

The Magnificent Seven
Theater Count: 3,674
Starring: Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Peter Sarsgaard

See the Trailer:

MHT Hot Take:

See it! It’s hard to get excited about remakes because there are so many of them but The Magnificent Seven is one to get excited about. The cast alone should have you wanting to see it.

queen-of-katwe-poster-2

The Queen of Katwe
Theater Count: 52
Starring: David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o, Madina Nalwanga

See the Trailer:

MHT Hot Take:

See it! Chess movies are another guilty pleasure along with boxing movies. The Queen of Katwe looks like one that will be inspiring and moving at the same time.

the_dressmaker_film_poster

The Dressmaker
Theater Count: 36
Starring: Kate Winslet, Hugo Weaving, Liam Hemsworth, Kerry Fox, Judy Davis

See the Trailer:

MHT Hot Take:

Skip it! The Dressmaker looks like something we’ve seen before. Unless you are a huge fan of costume design, you can sit this one out.
