BuRStS #35 (Part 1): Into the Forest, Approaching the Unknown, Kingslaive: Final Fantasy XV & The Purge: Election Year

Time to do a little catch up on what has been coming out for home viewing. This week’s BuRStS will feature releases from both this week and last week which means it’ll be a 5 part series. Here’s Part 1 of what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of October 4th & 11th:

Into the Forest –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: In the not so distant future, two sisters have their lives disrupted by a worldwide power outage.

Why Buy?

It’s a YA without the Y… it’s an AA.

Why Rent?

There’s no zombies, either.

Why Stream?

It’s released by A24.

Why Skip?

Too promising for you, eh?

MHT Verdict: Buy it!

Featuring Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood, Into the Forest is a promising, smart looking, zombie-free adult apocalyptic title produced by Lionsgate and A24, two consistently good studios.

Approaching the Unknown –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Yet another man on Mars movie.

Why Buy?

You love movies about men on Mars.

Why Rent?

While the idea of another movie about a man on Mars makes your head hurt, Mark Strong, Luke Wilson and Sanaa Lathan is a decent trio of actors.

Why Stream?

You want to watch The Martian but it’s not available to stream on your service.

Why Skip?

You prefer a Milky Way.

MHT Verdict: Rent it!

While this topic is getting a little tired, Approaching the Unknown looks compelling enough to rent and check out at least once.

Kingslaive: Final Fantasy XV –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Someone thought video game cut scenes would make a good movie, I guess.

Why Buy?

That someone was you.

Why Rent?

You selected from Redbox by accident.

Why Stream?

You can’t sleep.

Why Skip?

You mean other than it looks painful to watch?

MHT Verdict: Skip it!

Full disclosure: I used to really enjoy watching people play Final Fantasy X because the graphics were so good. However, I chalk that up to too much caffeine.

The Purge: Election Year —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Another night of anarchy.

Why Buy?

You’re a Purge junkie.

Why Rent?

You liked the first two and need to see the same movie with different performers.

Why Stream?

You’ve decided to binge watch the trilogy.

Why Skip?

Isn’t Donald Trump scary enough?

MHT Verdict: Stream it!

It’s not good but there are much worse movies you could choose from the last two weeks.
