BuRStS #42: Pete’s Dragon, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, The BFG, Don’t Breathe & The Wild Life

If you have kids, this week’s BuRStS contains 2 films MHT recommends and 1 that might at least serve as a 90 minute babysitter. There’s also a quality horror flick and a TV-to-big screen conversion that’s easy to dismiss. Here are the recommendation from Movie Hot Take on what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of November 29th:

Pete’s Dragon —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Animated film turned into a live action film. It’s Disney’s version of lather, rinse, repeat but it goes remake, rake cash, repeat.

Why Buy?

It’s magical and delightful.

Why Rent?

It’s not Puff the Magic Dragon.

Why Stream?

Even if you’re sick of remakes and reboots, how can you ever get sick of Robert Redford?

Why Skip?

You’re sick of Robert Redford? Really???

MHT Verdict: Buy it!

The biggest quality Pete’s Dragon has that makes it a worthy purchase is it’s only an update of the original in spirit. There’s a completely different angle here and a new identity for the modern Pete’s Dragon tale.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Like the TV show but with “: The Movie” after the title to make it seem different.

Why Buy?

You’re a big fan of Absolutely Fabulous: The TV Show.

Why Rent?

Somewhere in this mess there’s Cara Delevingne.

Why Stream?

You’ve binged watched the show and this will give you closure.

Why Skip?

In some alternate universe when you watch a movie, it pulls the stars out of their lives and this would really be unfair to Kanye who needs Kim right now.

MHT Verdict: Skip it!

Get well soon, Kanye.

The BFG —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Disney has provided more magic than you can shake a stick at this year, haven’t they?

Why Buy?

Spielberg and Disney… how could it not work?

Why Rent?

The Roald Dahl book is one of your childhood favorites (or one of your children’s favorites).

Why Stream?

You’re not a kid anymore but sometimes it’s fun to feel like one.

Why Skip?

BFG? More like BFD.

MHT Verdict: Rent it!

It’ll get you right in the feels. You’ve been warned.

Don’t Breathe —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: One of those horror movies where you find yourself rooting for the bad guy a little bit… until you realize he’s a sick, deranged psychopath.

Why Buy?

You love horror flicks which I have to admit kind of makes me a little nervous.

Why Rent?

You missed the shocking hit of the summer. (It did $89 million at the box office. Where were you?)

Why Stream?

83% for a horror film on Rotten Tomatoes? I guess you have to.

Why Skip?

You don’t like when movie titles tell you what to do!

MHT Verdict: Rent it!

… And keep the lights on. Just sayin’!

The Wild Life —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: The animated version of the Robinson Crusoe tale.

Why Buy?

Kids… Can’t live with ’em, can’t leave ’em at the in-laws all the time.

Why Rent?

You have those kids that will watch the same movie over and over again and you aren’t watching this over and over again.

Why Stream?

You babysit.

Why Skip?

It’s not Disney, Dreamworks, Pixar or Illumination.

MHT Verdict: Stream it!

It was bad but it’s short, too.
