BuRStS #46: February 21, 2017

The return of BuRStS with a slightly different format. We’ll still list every movie released on home video this week but the format has slightly changed. Now, we’ll start with what you should do and then list the film. Here’s what you should buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of February 21, 2017:

Buy It!

Manchester by the Sea —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Why Casey Affleck should win Best Actor at this weekend’s Academy Awards.

Why Buy?

It’s a well written drama with enough dry humor to keep you from completely falling into infinite sadness with incredible performances from Affleck, Michelle Williams and Lucas Hedges. Plus, it has the most gutwrenching scene in recent memory. No, not that one. THAT ONE!

Rent It!

Hacksaw Ridge —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: True story of Desmond Doss who refused to carry a weapon while serving his country as an Army medic during WWII.

Why Rent?

Help Hollywood recoup all of the money spent on fake blood and body parts used for this gruesome retelling by Mel Gibson. (Unless he used leftover supplies from The Passion of the Christ.)

Stream It!

Nocturnal Animals

Super Simple Synopsis: A “story inside a story” which is usually either very interesting or very annoying. Early Awards buzz leans toward interesting but the late snubbing leans toward annoying.

Why Stream?

First, the box office bailed then the Awards circuit bailed on Nocturnal Animals. It might be safer to check this one out when it drops on Netflix of Amazon Prime.

Skip It!

Air Bound

Super Simple Synopsis: Animated adventure featuring a city mouse named Gavin and his friend Matthew as they travel with ship mice to Dream Island to battle Winston the White Weasel and his wicked weasel clan.

Why Skip?

Jon Lovitz voices Winston the White Weasel. Ask yourself: When is the last time you saw something with Jon Lovitz worth watching?

Bad Santa 2

Super Simple Synopsis: Like the original which means I shouldn’t waste your time describing this movie.

Why Skip?

Typically, sequels suck more than the original and Bad Santa sucked… so where’s that leave Bad Santa 2?
