4 movies explode onto the home video market on the 4th of July with The Zookeeper’s Wife leading the way. Here’s what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of July 4, 2017:
Buy It!
The Zookeeper’s Wife —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—
Super Simple Synopsis: A Holocaust film obviously not good enough for an Oscar since it came out in March.
Why Buy?
Jessica Chastain delivers another performance much better than the movie it is part of.
Rent It!
Song to Song –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: Terrence Malick scores another all-star cast to make a film about the Austin music scene.
Why Rent?
Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Val Kilmer, Holly Hunter…
Stream It!
Drone –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: A drone pilot must face the consequences of his actions when a Pakistani man comes looking for revenge on him and his family.
Why Stream?
The scruples of modern warfare are on display in Drone. It didn’t make much of an impact at theaters so it is unlikely to live up to last year’s Eye in the Sky but still might be worth a look.
Skip It!
Awakening the Zodiac –NO REVIEW–
Super Simple Synopsis: A young couple finds film reels containing footage of a serial killer which puts them in his crosshairs.
Why Skip?
While the concept seems novel enough, of this week’s movies, this is the least likely to deliver on the entertainment side.
