BuRStS #66: July 18, 2017 featuring Free Fire & Kong: Skull Island

For the second consecutive week, double digit releases hit the home video market. It’s Brie Larson week as she stars in not 1 but 2 of the releases. Only 1 of the 10 releases made a lasting impression at the box office (Kong: Skull Island) while the rest either failed to perform well or were direct to video releases. Here’s what to buy, rent, stream and skip for the week of July 18th:

Buy It!

Free Fire —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: An arms deal gone wrong becomes an 85 minute gun fight.

Why Buy?

A great cast and a unique premise gives this film a different feel than most. Free Fire stars Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, Jack Reynor and the longest gunfight in movie history.

Kong: Skull Island —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: It’s man vs. monster on a mysterious island in the South Pacific.

Why Buy?

The sequel to the reboot of King Kong has some impressive visuals and an excellent cast. Featuring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly, this is an action packed flick with great cinematography that provide forgiveness for its razor-thin plot.

Rent It!

Buster’s Mal Heart –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: A family man meets a conspiracy theorist and ends up on the run from the cops.

Why Rent?

Combining conspiracy and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek is a smart move.

Tommy’s Honour —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: The biopic of 19th century golf legends “Old” and “Young” Tommy Morris.

Why Rent?

An unexpectedly interesting tale of the father and son who ushered in the modern game of golf.

Stream It!

Feed –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Two twins remain connected even though one dies.

Why Stream?

It looks strange enough to pique my curiosity.

The Promise —MOVIE HOT TAKE REVIEW—

Super Simple Synopsis: Based on the true story of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turkish at the end of the Ottoman Empire. Oh, and there’s this fictional love story, too.

Why Stream?

A good cast can’t overcome an overall bland (but informative) product but it’s worth one watch.

Resident Evil: Vendetta –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: This video game has spawned both a live action and animated movie franchise. The latest animated chapter is Vendetta.

Why Stream?

You have to respect a video game franchise that has gets more miles of its tank than a Toyota Prius.

Skip It!

Beaches –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: The film that spawned “Wind Beneath My Wings” has a remake. Let that sink in.

Why Skip?

Unless you loved the original, there’s really no reason to see this remake starring Idina Menzel and Nia Long.

Pray for Rain –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: Propaganda film that pushes the agenda that the California water crisis has been caused by, you guessed it, evil environmentalists!!!

Why Skip?

Climate change isn’t real, Hispanic gangs are everywhere and those pesky environmentalists will sabotage everything to save a stupid animal. It’s the fever dream of Lucas Oil billionaire Forrest Lucas whose film company has produced this masterturd.

Transhuman –NO REVIEW–

Super Simple Synopsis: A woman searches for her missing friend which leads her to a transhumanist cult. What the hell is a transhumanist cult?

Why Skip?

I can’t make sense of this nonsensical horror flick so I kind of want you to watch it and tell me if it makes any sense at all but holy crap it looks terrible.
