It took a little longer to close out 2017 than it did 2016 and while MHT only reached 151 movies in 2017 (compared to 181 in 2016), it was still a solid year of reviews. It took until the final 26 to get 2017’s top movie which controversially happens to be Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Actually, the top 3 films of MHT’s 2017 list all came from the final viewing period and 7 of the top 11. While 2017 started off with a fizzle, it definitely closed with a bang! Here are all of the links to the previous grades for 2017:

The “Thumbs Up” Group
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (5 / 5)
Lady Bird (5 / 5)
Darkest Hour (5 / 5)
I, Tonya (5 / 5)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (5 / 5)
The Disaster Artist (5 / 5)
Patti Cake$ (5 / 5)
3 of these were nominated for Best Picture. I wouldn’t have been upset if all 7 of these received the nod from the Academy.
Wonder (4 / 5)
The Shape of Water (4 / 5)
Molly’s Game (4 / 5)
Hostiles (4 / 5)
Coco (4 / 5)
The Post (4 / 5)
Leaving out The Post, 5 of these films and 12 of the last 26 films made this year’s top 21. Talk about finishing the year strong.
All the Money in the World (3.5 / 5)
Wonderstruck (3.5 / 5)
It’s easy to forget about these two considering how far down the list they are for the final three months of the year but they were both high quality films with a special hat tip to Christopher Plummer for stepping in last second to replace Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World.
The Greatest Showman (3 / 5)
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (3 / 5)
Daisy Winters (3 / 5)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (3 / 5)
The Greatest Showman will be a movie I know I watch again even more so than most of the movies that come before it on the list.
The “Thumbs Eh” Group
Justice League (2.5 / 5)
Phantom Thread (2.5 / 5)
Pitch Perfect 3 (2.5 / 5)
Murder On the Orient Express (2.5 / 5)
Call Me By Your Name (2.5 / 5)
2 Best Picture nominees make the group I just wasn’t very thrilled with but lumping them in with Justice League and Pitch Perfect 3 might be too big of an insult.
The “Thumbs Down” Group
Daddy’s Home 2 (2 / 5)
Who would have thought Will Ferrell would deliver us a throwaway sequel in 2017? (That was rhetorical. Put your hand down.)
Just Getting Started (0 / 5)
The final batch saved the worst for last, too!
