Still a little backlogged on reviews, MHT tallied movie #100 about a week ago which continues to match 2017’s pace despite all the Movie Pass hiccups and other things that managed to get in the way of sitting in a dark theater for about 2 hours. While Sorry to Bother You remains in the top spot, 9 movies led by Juliet, Naked, jumped into the top 20 for the year. With almost half of the top 20 being seen in the last 2 months, it’s safe to say summer closed out with a bang in 2018. Here’s the rest of 2018’s grades if you haven’t been keeping up:
- The First 25 Movies of 2018, Graded (April 7, 2018)
- The Next 25 Movies of 2018, Graded (June 3, 2018)
- The Next Next 25 Movies of 2018, Graded (July 22, 2018)
Now that you’re up to speed, here’s the last 25 movies of the first 100 movies of 2018, graded:
The “Thumbs Up” Group
Juliet, Naked (5 / 5) REVIEW
The best movie of the last 2 months and only one to earn a 5 star rating. There’s now two Ethan Hawke films in the top 20 of 2018 (for now).
BlacKkKlansman (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Blindspotting (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Eighth Grade (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Crazy Rich Asians (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Three Identical Strangers (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Searching (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Mission Impossible – Fallout (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
A Simple Favor (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
Christopher Robin (4.5 / 5) REVIEW
There’s enough 4-1/2 star films from the last 2 months to field a baseball team.
Destination Wedding (4 / 5) REVIEW
Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot (4 / 5) REVIEW
Some familiar faces in some much smaller films that barely ticked the box office radar but both films were better than expected.
Papillon (3.5 / 5) REVIEW
Unfriended: Dark Web (3.5 / 5) REVIEW
This group of 25 has been short on remakes, reboots and sequels but here’s a remake and a sequel that both actually worked out pretty well.
The “Thumbs Eh” Group
The Happytime Murders (2.5 / 5) REVIEW
Alpha (2.5 / 5) REVIEW
The Meg (2.5 / 5) REVIEW
This trio includes two flicks that could land on the guilty pleasure list with foul mouthed puppets in one and a giant shark (and Jason Statham) in the other.
The “Thumbs Down” Group
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (2 / 5) REVIEW
Kin (2 / 5) REVIEW
Only 8 movies received a “Thumbs Down” in this group of 25 but neither one of these were strong enough to make it to mediocre.
Mile 22 (1.5 / 5) REVIEW
Peppermint (1.5 / 5) REVIEW
Mark Wahlberg fatigue and an odd Jennifer Garner vehicle grab a generous 1-1/2 stars.
The Predator (1 / 5) REVIEW
I’ll take Unnecessary Sequels for $1,000, Alex!
The Nun (0.5 / 5) REVIEW
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (0.5 / 5) REVIEW
Can we find a way for The Conjuring Universe to bleed over into the Abba Universe? Please???
Slender Man (0 / 5) REVIEW
The good news is I forgot this movie existed until I had to recap this last 25. The bad news is I wasted 2 hours in Vegas watching this dreck.
Last or Most Recent, not Final of 2018. We got more 2018 to go. Don’t we?
Yes… more to go… final 25 of the first 100.
