Hot Take: A messy waste of time and talent.
I really wanted to like The Book of Henry. The cast looked excellent. Director Colin Treverrow is slated to direct Star Wars Episode IX. The trailer had intrigue. It was all seemingly set up for success. Despite all of the signs pointing toward a positive viewing experience, The Book of Henry failed on so many levels and left wondering if there was a better movie somewhere in this mess.

Hot Take: Too low-key to be anything better than okay. Jaeden Lieberher is the best actor in Hollywood under the age of 15.
The Confirmation doesn’t do anything special on screen to warrant too much excitement. Clive Owen as Walt, a working class father living paycheck to paycheck who has his son for the weekend, delivers a very good performance. Young Jaeden Lieberher as Anthony, Walt’s son who doesn’t know much about his dad other than what his mom (Walt’s ex-wife Bonnie played by Maria Bello) has told her, continues to be the best young actor in Hollywood. The pair have great chemistry. The supporting cast — Bello, Stephen Tobolowsky, Patton Oswalt, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Forster, Matthew Modine, Spencer Driver — all add to the movie. Hot Take: You can make a decent Sci-Fi film without laser rifles and space ships after all.
If you’re one dissatisfied to leave the theater with more questions than answers, Midnight Special might not be your cup of tea. If you’re one for film nostalgia, nods to the Sci-Fi work of Spielberg and Carpenter and The X-Files and some great performances, put Midnight Special on your list of movies to see for 2016.Read More →

It’s hard to get a read on Midnight Special as so many movies could be referenced here. The film features Jaeden Lieberher who was great in St. Vincent and Michael Shannon who is on a run of being great in everything he’s in.
Oddly enough, I’ve seen plenty to intrigue me and want to see more. I also feel like the less I see before the viewing, the better that will be for the experience as this looks like one you don’t want to put the pieces together in advance. Due March 18, 2016.
